Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Louis XV Revival chest of drawers is a tall French marquetry semainier formed of rich warm brown rosewood and walnut, topped with a red and white mottled marble slab. The exterior displays seven graduated drawers, each detailed with intricate lighter-wood floral and scroll marquetry panels set against the dark timber ground. Sweeping serpentine contours define the front profile, transitioning down to short cabriole legs. The entire surface has been cleaned and polished, showing polished brass key escutcheon mounts and detailed wood inlays along every drawer front. Standing 142 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, this narrow vertical case piece fits well in a bedroom, hallway, or dressing area as a statement storage unit for linens or smaller garments, bringing formal French chateau character to a domestic interior.

FAQs

A semainier is a traditional French tallboy chest featuring seven drawers, designed historically to store a weeks worth of clothing or linens, allocating one drawer for each day.

These storage pieces frequently combine hardwood frames with decorative wood veneers such as rosewood, kingwood, or walnut, completed with natural marble tops and cast brass or bronze escutcheons.

Authentic items display hand-cut floral or scroll veneer inlays, gently curved cabriole legs, serpentine drawer fronts, hand-cut dovetail joints, and unpolished structural surfaces beneath the marble slab.

Position the tall cabinet in a hallway, dressing space, or alcove to introduce vertical balance, pairing the detailed wood grain against plain neutral walls and modern art.

Dust the veneered frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, position the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement, and wipe the marble top using a dedicated pH-neutral cleaner.
