There is some slight deterioration to the silk, lower right underneath the signature but this is nicely framed under glass so quite stable.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silk painting is one of the oldest artistic traditions in China, dating back over two millennia. Artists applied watercolour pigments and ink directly to woven silk, predominantly depicting landscapes, portraits, and traditional bird-and-flower motifs that carry symbolic meaning.

Traditional Chinese silk paintings are created using natural silk panels stretched over frames or backing paper. The medium consists of Chinese ink and natural mineral or plant-based watercolours applied with soft animal-hair brushes.

Authentic pieces feature visible brushwork texture, fine variations in pigment saturation, and genuine ink absorbency into the silk weave. They typically incorporate hand-written calligraphic inscriptions accompanied by red ink artist seal stamps carved from stone.

Position the framed artwork as a focal point above a console table or sideboard in neutral-toned interiors. Pairing delicate silk artwork with dark wood furniture or contemporary minimalist frames creates a balanced juxtaposition between historical texture and modern design.

Silk is highly sensitive to environmental conditions, so framed artwork should be kept away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent fading and textile decay. Glazing with UV-protective glass and mounting on acid-free backing materials helps preserve the silk fibers.
