A Fine and Rare Early 18th-Century George I Single Dome Burr Walnut Bureau Bookcase of diminutive proportions, Circa 1720-1730. England.
 
This exceptional early Georgian bureau bookcase exhibits masterful craftsmanship, dating to the first quarter of the 18th century (c. 1720-1730). The single-domed top and use of richly figured burr walnut veneers showcase both elegance and precision, indicative of early Georgian furniture design.
 
The upper section features an arched single-door cabinet with the original bevelled mirror plate above a candle slide.
 
The door opens to reveal adjustable shelves, perfect for displaying books or valuables.
 
The top is accentuated by finely turned finials, enhancing its classical proportions.
 
The fall-front bureau opens to reveal a well-fitted interior, with a series of small drawers, pigeonholes, and central compartments for documents and stationery.
 
Below the writing slope, there are four graduated cockbeaded and feather-banded drawers with original brass handles and escutcheons. An unusual feature is the neatly concealed brushing slide, stowed just below the top drawer.
