The golden field of this huge handmade carpet from North West Persia circa 1880 is really beautiful, and very unusual. Also with the grass green border, it's not a combination you find very often but works tremendously well. With a subtle, allover design, this rare carpet will look fabulous in your home. In very good condition.

Fereghan carpets originate from the Arak region of central Persia, renowned during the nineteenth century for their refined craftsmanship and intricate floral patterns. These carpets often feature a central medallion or an overall Herati design, set against warm field colours with detailed multi-layered borders.

Traditional Fereghan carpets are hand-knotted using high-quality wool pile spun onto a cotton or wool warp and weft structure. Dyes were historically derived from natural vegetable sources, yielding subtle variations in tone, known as abrash, across the weave.
