As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this very finely painted Meiji Period (1868-1912) Satsuma dish, the dish decorated during the late 19th century by arguably the most coveted artist of the period, Yabu Meizan (1853-1934) . The delightful little dish is predominatly decorated in Yabu''s trademark millefiori gilt enamel to the border, the painting of superlative quality, the border frames a shaped cartouch depicting scenes of bijins performing various pursuits, each painstakingly painted in fine detail, the rear of this charming little dish carries a crisp gilt signature seal for Yabu Meizan. This dish is a perfect little cabinet example from the studio of an artist working at his peak during the latter part of the 19th century.
