Jean Dunand (1877–1942) was a Swiss-born French artist celebrated for his work in Art Deco. Known as a master of lacquer and metalwork, Dunand''s craftsmanship spanned decorative panels, furniture, jewelry, and vases, blending traditional techniques with bold, modernist designs. He was deeply influenced by Japanese lacquerwork, which he learned from the Japanese master Seizo Sugawara, mastering complex processes to create luxurious textures and rich, vibrant finishes. Dunand’s work is recognized for its geometric forms, vivid colors, and elegant patterns, making him a central figure in the Art Deco movement. Today, his creations are highly prized and considered masterpieces of decorative art.
