Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Caucasian carpet from 1900 is hand-knotted from wool and displays a geometric diamond lattice pattern with multi-layered crenelated borders and fringed ends. The visible colour palette consists of soft reds and indigo blues with ivory highlights, low even pile, and structured geometric medallions across the field. Measuring 193 cm high by 157 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep, this rectangular textile functions as a floor covering in a living room, study, or hallway to add warmth and pattern to traditional interiors. Place this piece over wooden floorboards or neutral carpets to anchor a seating arrangement or define a circulation space.

FAQs

Caucasian carpets originate from the region between the Black and Caspian Seas, produced primarily by village weavers. They are distinguished by bold geometric shapes, primary colour palettes, stylized animal and floral motifs, and strong tribal design structures.

Authentic Caucasian rugs are constructed almost exclusively from hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation wrap/weft. The yarns were historically dyed using natural vegetable, plant, and mineral sources to achieve deep reds, indigo blues, and cream tones.

Authentic antique pieces feature hand-knotted construction visible on the reverse side, slight asymmetrical variations in the weave, and natural dye oxidisation over time. The presence of symmetrical Ghiordes knots and geometric lattice or medallion designs is also indicative of regional origin.

A Caucasian carpet serves as a grounding focal point when placed beneath neutral furniture in living spaces or dining rooms. The saturated red and blue tones complement dark wood floors, polished concrete, or modern leather upholstery, adding historical contrast to contemporary settings.

To preserve wool pile, vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beater bar. Spills should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a specialist rug restorer is recommended to treat stains or deep dirt without damaging natural dyes.
