Victorian furniture encompasses designs produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, characterising a period of eclectic revival styles, heavy ornamentation, and superior cabinet-making craftsmanship using rich timbers like mahogany and walnut.

Cabinet makers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, frequently accented with fine marquetry, brass handles, leather skivers, and delicate stringing details.

Authenticity is identified through traditional hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, aged patina on the timber, hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, and maker stamps or plaques from reputable firms.

An antique desk serves as a sophisticated focal point in a modern study or living room by pairing it with a minimalist contemporary chair to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber without damaging the finish.
