Fully Restored Antique 1880 George II Style Highback Brown Leather Settee Sofa

19th century
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning George II style late Victorian fully restored hand dyed brown leather high back sofa

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.

I’ve never seen another of this quality style and charm, it is simply exquisite throughout, the leather is period and original, we have restored it to include having the leather washed back, hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed waxed down and polished, it now looks better than the original colour

The legs are all carved from solid slabs of mahogany, they have been stained and polished from new, the end result is something which should be classed as art furniture.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II style furniture, originating in mid-18th century Britain and widely revived in the late 19th century, is characterised by cabriole legs, shell carvings, scrolled armrests, and mahogany or walnut frame construction.

Traditional highback settees were constructed using solid hardwood frames, typically mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-carved legs, spring cushions, and full-grain leather upholstery fastened with individual brass studs.

Authentic late 19th-century pieces display hand-planed timber frames, traditional webbing underneath, individually driven brass upholstery tacks, and natural age-related patination across high-touch areas.

A highback leather settee serves as an anchor in a spacious entrance hall or living area, pairing naturally with contemporary art, neutral plaster walls, and low-profile modern side tables to highlight its vertical proportions.

Maintain antique leather by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a wax-based leather conditioner annually, keeping the frame away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying.
