A Fine Quality Early 19th Century, Regency Period, Mahogany Pedestal Desk Of Nice Small Proportions, Having Attractive Gilt Tooled Leather Inset To Crossbanded Top, Over Nine Drawers To Front Retaining Original Turned Wooden Knobs And Three False Drawers Plus Two Panelled Cupboard Doors To Reverse, Raised On Original Plinth Base With Castors.
Georgian and Victorian pedestal desks vary wildly in style, shape, size, finish and quality, and this is a great example of its type, in terms of being a small, compact mahogany example, but very good quality indeed and extremely well put together.
Another feature of note is the cupboard doors to the reverse which is a very unusual feature for such a relatively small desk to have. It it however very cleverly designed to ensure that there is enough overhang at the top and bottom to ensure that one can use it just as happily up against a wall as one could in the middle of a room.
The size is of course a breath of fresh air for those with little available floor space to set up a working from home environment, as it manages to be big enough and offer enough storage for practical day to day working whilst noty being too imposing in a room.
The desk does come into three pieces for ease of transportation as is common for this period and that of course makes it even easier to get into absolutely any location around the home which the purchaser desires.
As with all items which we offer for sale this 19th century desk has been attended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a traditional wax polish finish to ensure that it is absolutely ready to be placed straight into a home, or office environment.
