A Gillows Mahogany & Ebonised Davenport.

Description

A beautiful mahogany & ebonised Davenport attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. Featuring a sliding black leather-lined writing slope with a Greek key border. Four mahogany lined drawers on one side with dummy’s on the other, both with turned rosewood knobs. Both sides will pull out leather lined slides.

The top with a wonderful 3/4 pierced gilt brass galley concealing a lidded compartment which opens to reveal twin glass ink wells & pen compartment.

The main writing slope opens & supported with a brass stay to reveal twin drawers.

Bramah type round inset escutcheons.

Panelled front & rear with inset ebonised mouldings.

Supported on turned bun feet with concealed castors,

Has been sensitively restored, revived & wax polished by myself.
