Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bureau mirror is a compact tabletop furniture piece featuring a slanted writing flap above small drawers, surmounted by an adjustable swing mirror. Originating in 18th-century Britain, these multi-functional items were designed for placement on chest of drawers or tables in dressing rooms and boudoirs.

Primary cabinet woods included dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, prized for its deep tone and grain pattern. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak formed the interior drawer linings, accompanied by cast brass drop handles and hand-silvered mercury glass mirrors.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on small drawers, hand-planed backboards, and natural timber shrinkage over time. The brassware typically shows original cast pin construction, while original mirror plates often exhibit subtle oxidisation and characteristic grey speckling.

Place the unit atop a flat surface such as a hallway sideboard, bedroom chest, or vanity unit to serve as a focal anchor. It provides functional surface storage for small everyday items while reflecting light to enlarge compact spaces.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding spray polishes containing silicones or solvents. Apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually, buffing gently along the grain to maintain the patinated surface finish.
