Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
This actually has a brass placque in the top drawer from when it was presented as a gift in 1947. The wood is a tightly figured fiddleback mahogany, with walnut cross banding on the drawer fronts. The drawers have high quality brass ring pull handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. This has a lovely kidney shape, the top is inset faded black leather.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age.
