Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Edwardian kidney-shaped desks feature a distinctive concave front curve designed to allow comfortable access to writing materials. These pieces reflected the Edwardian preference for lighter, more graceful forms compared to heavier Victorian styles.

Edwardian desks were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood, often adorned with delicate string inlay or marquetry. The top surface frequently featured an inset leather writing skiver, accented with cast brass handles and tapered legs.

Authentic Edwardian desks demonstrate hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, fine satinwood or boxwood stringing, and genuine aged patina on brass hardware. Look for original timber drawer bottoms and evidence of natural wood movement over time.

A kidney-shaped desk works exceptionally well positioned centrally in a study or window bay to showcase its curved silhouette. Complement the warm mahogany timber with modern task lighting and neutral textiles to create a balanced workspace.

Keep the desk away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood warping or inlay lifting. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain annually, and clean the leather writing surface with a slightly damp cloth followed by a leather conditioner.
