A rare pale green background on this gentle antique Ushak carpet, using delicate pinks for the vines, flowers and border colour.  Wonderful very open all over design, from the late 19th century, this circa 1880 carpet is why these decorative carpets from Anatolia are so desirable and collectable.  Ushaks were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and use soft natural dyes.
