Size: 5ft 9in x 3ft 3in (175 x 100cm).

Antique Ersari Beshir Turkmen chuval face with the ikat design.

Circa 1880.

A good example of the well known ikat design with three small central medallions. The ground colour is a warm rose madder with the design in indigo blue, ivory and a soft yellow. The elem panel at the base is a finely drawn Turkmen tree design.

The chuval face is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good pile. The chuval face has a very soft and floppy handle.

This antique Ersari Beshir Turkmen chuval face is a traditional tribal rug from circa 1880, hand-knotted in wool. The warm terracotta red ground holds a repeating chevron ikat pattern in navy blue, ivory and soft yellow, centred with three diamond medallions. Elaborate geometric borders frame the field, while the base features an elem panel decorated with a Turkmen tree motif and fringed edges at the ends. The pile is thick with very slight wear, presenting a soft, flexible handle.
