Antique Afghan Turkmen carpet with traditional Tekke Turkmen gul design.
Circa 1900.
The carpet has eight vertical rows of Tekke Turkmen style guls; this design of carpet was woven by the settled Turkmen people in the Andkhoy region of northern Afghanistan; the design is mainly associated with the villages of Daulatabad to the south and a number of smaller villages along the road to Mazar-i-Sharif.
Note the elem panels at each end in traditional Turkmen design. This carpet is unusual in being almost square.

The carpet is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile, this is a superb furnishing carpet that is ideal for a living or dining room.
The carpet is suitable for heavy domestic floor use.
