Antique Afghan Sulayman Ersari Turkmen Carpet, Northern Afghanistan, Circa 1900.

Description

Size: 8ft 5in x 6ft 3in (257 x 190cm).

Antique Afghan carpet with traditional Ersari design, this carpet has superb colour with a very good warm copper field. The carpet has two rows of four large guls.

Circa 1900.

The carpet is of a very useful small size and was woven by Ersari weavers of the Sulayman sub tribe in Northern Afghan Turkestan. The large guls contain a unique design, some call it a tree, whilst the Turkmen refer to it as a rib or spine design. This example has superb colour in warm copper tones and burnt orange.

The carpet is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good pile.

The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
