Description

This all original gorgeous small super king or European King Size bed has its ‘original’ fabric on it, whilst perfectly usable, we have included the price of re-upholstery within the bed’s price (customer to supply own fabric). Should you wish to take the bed as is, we can reduce the price by £250.

The walnut frame has many lovely details indicative of Louis XV style beds, with fluted posts with beading, gently tapering legs, geometric-esque carving under the slight mantle on the head and foot end. A very lovely bed indeed.

Head Height 138cm

Foot Height 105.5cm

Side Rail Height 31cm

Overall Width 170cm

Overall Length214cm

Suitable to take a 160cm x 200cm / 5’3” x 6’6” modern mattress inside the side rails. We can adapt the siderails so the bed can take a 170cm mattress/base on top of the rails for an additional £250.

Price includes wood slats (sorry not mattress). As an alternative to the wood slats we can supply mini box bases for superior mattress support and to raise the get into bed height.

The bed is photographed on slats. We can also supply hand-made mattresses in all comfort choices. Please see our web site or email for full specifications and prices.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century, characterised by a return to classical proportions, straight lines, symmetrical designs, and refined neoclassical motifs such as fluting and carved rosettes.

These beds are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring hand-carved details, joinery techniques standard to the period, and often upholstered panels in silk, velvet, or brocade.

Authentic period pieces feature period-correct joinery, hand-cut screws or traditional pegs, genuine age-related patination on the timber, and construction methods consistent with late 18th-century French cabinetmaking.

Pairing an ornate wooden bed with minimalist neutral walls, modern lighting, and simple linen bedding creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the classic craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain wooden frames by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and occasionally applying quality beeswax, while upholstered sections should be professionally cleaned and protected from direct sunlight to prevent fabric degradation.
