This French Bistro style wine cooler originates from 1910 and takes the form of an open bucket. Constructed from silver plate, it has a polished silver finish with natural tarnish and surface patination showing age. The body features heavy embossed lettering reading Champagne R. Sauvignier Epernay within a raised rectangular cartouche, framed by parallel ribbed moulding bands above and below. Two ornate handles shaped like gnarled grapevines with detailed leaves and clusters attach to either side just beneath the flared rim. The piece measures 23.3 cm high, 22.8 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. At home today, this champagne bucket functions as a practical wine cooler for dining tables or parties, and sits neatly on a sideboard top when not in use.

Clean silver-plated items using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to prevent removing the thin outer silver layer. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or dishwasher use, and dry thoroughly after contact with moisture to prevent excessive oxidisation.

A silver champagne bucket can be placed on a dining sideboard, bar cart, or kitchen island as a functional accessory or floral display vessel. Pairing patinated silver metalwork with modern glassware creates a balanced visual contrast in contemporary spaces.

Authentic pieces generally display manufacturer stamps, silver plate purity marks, or base metal indicators on the underside. Natural wear patterns, such as base metal showing through high-contact areas, along with authentic surface oxidisation, distinguish original items from modern reproductions.

Traditional wine coolers are typically constructed from electroplated nickel silver, copper, or brass base metals finished with a silver layer. Cast handles depicting grapevine motifs or ring handles were frequently solder-attached prior to plating.

Silver-plated champagne buckets gained widespread popularity in nineteenth-century France as champagne houses commissioned custom cooling vessels for hotels, bistros, and dining establishments. These vessels were designed to maintain bottle temperature while displaying commercial branding in raised relief.
