A 19th Century French Parquetry Bureau Plat or Writing Table in Walnut and Tulipwood.This finely crafted bureau plat was conceived in the Louis XVI style and is rectilinear in style. Featuring its original maroon leather inset top with tooled edge and some traces of gilding still visible. The top features a simple line of stringing but is otherwise undecorated barring an edge moulding. The drawer fronts, however, are extensively inlaid in the parquetry manner, i.e. with repeating geometric motifs in contrasting woods. The centres of each of the drawer fronts feature chevron patterns inlaid in tulipwood. The drawers all retain their original neoclassical style escutcheon and handle plates. The sides of the piece have more inlaid tulipwood parquetry panels. There are extending slides to both sides.
