Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian French Revival serpentine credenza functions as a side cabinet, measuring 114 cm high, 197 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. The piece consists of warm brown burr walnut with marquetry inlay, curved glass doors enclosing shelves, and ormolu mounts. The central pair of serpentine doors displays floral marquetry panels depicting a vase of flowers held up by two maidens, while the glazed end doors incorporate ormolu mounts and marquetry. The top follows a shaped outline above an inlaid frieze decorated with ormolu lion head mounts, and the structure rests upon a plinth base with inlay and ormolu decoration. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a decorative storage and display cabinet in a principal living room or dining room.

FAQs

A serpentine credenza is a side cabinet defined by an undulating, wave-like front profile, popularised during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in European cabinet making.

These cabinets typically utilise fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or kingwood, decorated with contrasting wood veneers for marquetry and finished with cast gilt-bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-cut floral marquetry, cast bronze ormolu fitments with hand-chased details, and custom-fitted curved glass panes.

Position the credenza as a focal point in a formal dining room or spacious hallway, balancing its detailed ornamentation with understated contemporary artwork placed on the wall above.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilt-bronze mounts to prevent damage to the patination.
