Satsuma pottery plate, signed Ryokuzan, Meiji Period. Finely hand painted with an asymmetric lozenge shaped panel containing a scene of Samurai competing in sporting activity on horses, with spectators watching from behind fences, and from within a pavilion, in a mountainous landscape.

All upon a ground painted with an abundance of flowering plants.

Signed Ryokuzan beneath a Satsuma Mon in gilt.

Diameter – 18.5 cm, 7 1/4”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
