Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bureau de pente, also known as a slant-front bureau or bureau a pente, is a French writing desk featuring an angled hinged lid that opens downwards to form a flat writing surface while revealing internal drawers and compartments.

Traditional French bureaux were constructed using exotic wood veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, and walnut applied in parquetry or marquetry patterns over an oak carcass, embellished with gilded bronze or ormolu mounts.

Authentic Louis XV bureaux feature gentle S-curved cabriole legs, asymmetrical floral or rocaille gilt-bronze mounts, intricate parquetry or marquetry veneer work, and hand-cut dovetail jointing inside the drawers.

A French bureau can serve as an occasional workstation in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, paired with contemporary minimalist seating or a neutral linen chair to highlight the woodwork and gilded hardware.

Maintain wood veneers by dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and applying beeswax periodically, while avoiding direct sunlight and humidity fluctuations. Gilt-bronze mounts should be dusted gently without harsh chemical cleaners that strip the original gilding or patina.
