Description

Good Regency rosewood and gilt brass side cabinet; attributed to Gillows; the original Carrara white marble top resting on a moulded and cross banded frieze above the striking pair of doors having well figured rosewood panels framed with gilt brass mouldings and finely cast gilt brass anthemions to all corners. The interior having two full width adjustable shelves. The doors with original working lock and key. Raised on typical Gillow pattern gadrooned turned feet.

English circa 1820

Very good original condition with a lovely colour. Marble commensurate of age and use with very minor chips.

This Regency side cabinet, attributed to Gillows and dating from around 1820, takes the form of a rectangular timber case executed in dark brown rosewood veneer. It is topped with a white marble slab and features a moulded, crossbanded frieze above a pair of panelled doors. The doors incorporate gilt brass mouldings and cast gilt brass anthemion mounts at each of the four corners, enclosing well-figured wood panels, and are set with an original working lock and key. The cabinet rests on short, gadrooned turned feet at the base, displaying very good original condition with a warm timber colour, whilst the marble top shows minor chips commensurate with age and use. Measuring 90.2 cm high, 104.1 cm wide and 36.2 cm deep, this piece provides practical enclosed storage while maintaining a shallow profile. Inside, the carcass accommodates two full-width adjustable shelves for organising household items.
