Description

A remarkable and vibrant rare antique Kirman rug in excellent condition, also in an unusual rare size too. The dyes used in the weaving of this rug are truly fantastic. The variety and depth of colour along with the finest weave and intricate design makes this one of the best Kirman rugs we have ever had in our collection, a real work of art.  Woven around the turn of the 20th Century this rug is around 120 years old.

The condition is really exceptional, with a fine short cut pile and a tight weave, one old repair is apparent at one end, which has been repaired expertly.  The pile is very soft and medium high all over, no marks or stains and professionally washed by ourselves.  It is ready to be used on the floor or hung on a wall as a work of art.

In the world of antique Persian rugs, Kerman carpets are celebrated as being among the best. Kerman rugs are prized by collectors for many reasons, including a wide range of designs, a broad palette, use of natural dyes and fibers, great tensile strength and abrasion resistance, and expert color combinations. No two Kerman rugs are precisely alike, but these general characteristics typify this enduringly popular style.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire the UK & Europe by appointment. Kirman carpets originate from the city of Kerman in south-central Iran, a region with a centuries-old tradition of fine weaving, celebrated for intricate floral designs and sophisticated colour palettes.

These rugs are traditionally constructed using high-grade handspun wool pile on cotton foundations, utilizing asymmetric Persian knots to achieve fine detail.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the density of the hand-knotting, natural vegetable dyes, structural characteristics of the foundation, and characteristic floral medallion motifs.

An antique Persian rug grounds modern living spaces by adding texture, historical depth, and rich colour contrast against minimalist furniture and neutral flooring.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without rotary brushes, professional specialist washing, and keeping the rug out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading.
