Gorgeous late 19th century antique Angora Ushak rug, woven in a small town in Western Anatolia, this type of Turkish carpet are known as Angora rugs. The late 19th century weavers came from villages outside of Ushak and employed tribal techniques. Paramount to these techniques was the use of larger knots on these carpets (sometimes less than 30 knots per square inch) and an all-wool foundation.  This is why Ushak's have a soft and loose feel and their designs are more often very open.
Woven with amazing teal blue/greens, rich reds and golden tones, and off-white non dyed wool, the natural dyes are quite stunning! In really good original condition, with tiny areas of lower pile.  The majority of this rug has a soft and dense pile all over, please view all the additional images to see the condition up close.  A wonderful and rare rug woven over 140 years ago.
