Description

A smart and extremely well made antique burr walnut chest on chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1890-1910 period.

It is of superb quality and is a great size, with lots of storage space. The burr walnut grain patterns and colour tones are absolutely gorgeous, this has high quality brass handles and sits on bracket feet.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there, and at the very lower edge some minor signs of historical woodworm, long since treated and dead.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a piece of furniture featuring a two-section design with a smaller set of drawers stacked on top of a larger base unit, popular for maximizing storage space.

These pieces typically utilize a sturdy secondary wood like oak or pine for the internal structure and drawer carcases, faced with highly figured decorative veneers such as burr walnut, matched with brass hardware.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct brass drop handles and escutcheons, and the construction methods used in the secondary woods.

Positioned against a neutral wall in a hallway or bedroom, it serves as a statement focal point that contrasts effectively with contemporary minimalist surroundings.

Maintain the finish by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying periodic applications of traditional beeswax, and avoiding synthetic cleaning sprays.
