FAQs

During the Victorian era, advancements in industrial manufacturing allowed for the mass production of metal bedsteads, which were prized for their hygiene compared to traditional wooden beds.

These beds typically combine cast iron frames with spun brass fittings, finials, and top rails, often joined with Dovetail or wedge-lock joints designed for assembly.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-poured iron castings, genuine brass components that show natural ageing, and sizing that conforms to historical dimensions rather than modern standard mattress sizes.

Pairing the metallic frame with neutral linen bedding and soft textiles creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional and modern bedroom aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes on brass components to preserve the natural patina; check and gently tighten joint fixings periodically.
