19th Century Campaign Chest Of Drawers Made From Cedar Wood.

There is always a certain amount of intrigue attached to pieces of campaign furniture, especially chests of drawers which may have been used in foreign climes on a day-to-day basis. If only they could relay what they witnessed and where they had been - but, maybe that would lessen the mystique that surrounds them. We are always delighted to acquire nice examples from private sources. Such as this 19th-century example made from cedar, which has retained all its original brass fittings, and removable turned feet. Even though campaign chests are fairly scarce, we have bought and sold several made from teak, mahogany and camphor over the years, but never, until now, from cedar. As you can see from the images, we have fully restored the chest to a high standard - enhancing the wild attractive grain of the cedar by imparting a mellow pleasing tone to its surface.
