A fine 19th-century British military campaign chest in solid teak, featuring a rare fitted secretaire drawer and rich patina throughout. Made in two sections for ease of transport, this piece is a classic example of portable furniture used by officers during service abroad.
The chest is bound with recessed brass corners and flush campaign handles. The timber has a good colour and is in very good condition.
The upper section houses a secretaire drawer which opens to reveal a charming and functional writing interior. Inside, you''ll find an arrangement of pigeonholes and small drawers faced in striking burr veneers, along with a freshly restored writing surface in hand-dyed green leather, finished with blind and gilt tooling.
A further 5 drawers, all run smoothly offering a good amount of storage space inside.
On turned bun feet.
