Description

North west persia,circa 1900.

Apart from being only 82cm wide at it's widest point this runner has wonderful emerald,pea green & turquoise colours within the medallions along with a soft ochre all on a salmony terracotta coloured ground.

Has expertly stitched terracotta coloured side cords and fine fringe ends.

All over low even pile,hand washed and de-dusted to boot.

What more could one want,ready to lay.

Size is 11 foot 1 inches by 2 foot 8 inches. 338cm X 82cm at widest points. Fringes not measured in size. Wool pile hand knotted onto cotton foundations with the weft threads as usual with heriz weavings dyed light blue.

Realistically priced at £2250 gbp.

Karaja rugs are hand-knotted textiles originating from a village in North-West Persia, near the Heriz weaving region. They are characterized by geometric medallion patterns, typically alternating between octagonal and latch-hook motifs along a long central field.

These rugs are woven using hand-spun sheeps wool for the pile, knotted onto a sturdy cotton warp and weft foundation. The wool is coloured using traditional natural dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects.

Authentic pieces feature slight asymmetrical variations in the hand-woven geometric patterns and natural dye colour variations known as abrash. Inspecting the underside reveals visible individual knots rather than a uniform machine-backed material.
