Graham Reed Fine Art has dated this Antique Maritime Oil Painting to the 1900s.
He was educated at Christ’s Hospital and the Chelsea School of Art where he became a close friend of Daniel Sherrin,the landscape artist. After his marriage,Fletcher lived in Blackheath and owned a small auction house.At about forty he gave up the business to become a professional painter ,having previously painted as a hobby. He also painted under the pseudonym John Hayes,and himself is often mistakenly called Edwin Fletcher.He specialised in painting busy shipping scenes on the River Thames in a style not dissimilar to William Wyllie and made good use of impasto.Many of his pictures are understood to have been sold in North America. ‘ Pool of London ‘ signed John Hayes on relined canvas, image size 49.5x74.5 cms,framed size 79x104.5 cms
