Where should I place a chinese export carved table?

These tables suit reception rooms, hallways or studies where their carved detail and timber tones can function as focal points. Smaller forms like plant stands or nesting sets fit easily beside seating. Larger console or centre tables anchor open wall spaces or serve as display surfaces for lamps and decorative objects.

How do I care for the timber?

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity shifts to prevent timber movement or splitting. Dust regularly with a soft cloth rather than using silicone based polishes. Apply a light microcrystalline wax occasionally to nourish the grain and preserve the original finish.

Are marble inserts original?

Marble tops were commonly integrated into stands and jardiniere tables to provide a durable, cooling surface for heavy ceramic planters. Most period inserts fit flush within dedicated rebates in the wooden framing. Checking the underside reveals how the stone sits securely within the structural support of the table.

How do I identify a nest of tables?

A nesting set comprises multiple graduated tables designed to slide neatly beneath the largest top when not in use. They appeared frequently in export workshops to maximise floor space in domestic interiors. Each smaller table corresponds in carved motif and timber choice to the main frame.
