Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian mahogany chest of drawers displays a classic Georgian style with a rectangular top and moulded edge above a two over three drawer layout. The warm brown timber has a visible patina with banded decorative details and boxwood line inlay to the front. Each drawer is fitted with oval brass backplates and drop handles, and the entire structure is raised on bracket feet. Surface wear includes age-related marks, scratches, minor losses, and shrinkage to the inlay. The dimensions are 107 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this piece provides practical bedside or hallway storage while adding traditional English Country House character to a bedroom or living area. The sturdy construction ensures it remains functional for daily use, with multiple drawers offering ample space for folded clothing, linens, or household items. The rich timber tones complement both traditional and modern interiors, functioning as a standalone focal point or supporting table lamps and decorative objects on its top surface.

FAQs

During the eighteenth century, mahogany became the primary timber choice for English cabinet makers due to its durability and grain structure. Chests of drawers evolved from simple oak coffers into refined bedroom storage pieces featuring standardized drawer proportions and decorative line inlays.

Authentic period chests of drawers feature solid or veneered mahogany exteriors, secondary timbers such as pine or oak for drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast or pressed brass hardware.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-sawn secondary timber linings, irregular hand-cut dovetail jointing, natural shrinkage marks in the wood grain, and historical wear around the drawer runners and keyholes.

The rich reddish-brown tone of mahogany offers contrast when set against neutral plaster wall paint or minimalist contemporary artwork, serving as an accent piece in bedrooms, hallways, or living spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year following the wood grain. Avoid placing the furniture near direct heat sources or in areas subject to significant moisture changes.
