FAQs

Neoclassical French bronze sculpture emerged during the 17th and 18th centuries, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek and Roman mythologies, often produced in the styles of master sculptors like Pierre Lepautre.

These pieces are traditionally crafted using the lost-wax casting method, resulting in multi-part bronze casts finished with a chemical patination to create deep brown or black tones.

Authentic pieces are identified through the weight and quality of the bronze cast, the depth of the hand-applied patina, tool marks from chasing, and often foundry marks or artist signatures inscribed on the base.

Display the sculpture as a focal point on a sturdy surface such as a console table, mantelpiece, or pedestal where adequate lighting can highlight the complex surface contours and patination.

Preserve the finish by dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the metal from humidity and handling oils without altering the patina.
