Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Victorian walnut sideboard is a high-quality credenza measuring 102 cm high, 137.8 cm wide, and 36.8 cm deep. The piece displays a warm brown tone with a burr walnut veneer, cross banding, and stringing, accented by applied ormolu mounts and original glass. The shaped front features a concave centre with a central glazed door flanked by curved glass side doors at each end, containing two shelves and a faded velvet interior. Expected minor surface marks from use and minor restorations to the veneer are present on the structure. Suitable for display purposes in a home today, this credenza fits into living rooms or dining areas to house glassware, books, or decorative objects behind the glazed doors. The timber exhibits a good colour and patina throughout, highlighting the period joinery and hardware details.

FAQs

Originating in the 19th century, a Victorian glazed credenza is a low, wide storage cabinet featuring glass doors and timber veneers, traditionally utilised for displaying porcelain, glassware, and literature.

Craftsmen frequently incorporated figured wood veneers such as burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, alongside cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, interior fabric linings, and hand-blown glass panels.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, secondary interior timber such as pine or oak, natural patination on metal fittings, and minor imperfections in the antique glass.

A Victorian credenza functions as a central focal point in a dining space or hallway, creating contrast when positioned against neutral walls and paired with modern artwork or lighting.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement and fading, applying a clear beeswax polish periodically with a soft cloth to protect the surface finish.
