FAQs

The Meiji period (18681912) marked a monumental shift in Japanese art, driven by the opening of trade with the West, which spurred craftsmen to elevate traditional bronze casting techniques to unprecedented levels of international acclaim.

These vessels were typically produced using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods with copper-alloy bronzes, frequently featuring intricate surface patination, high-relief chasing, and inlaid details achieved through specialised metalworking guilds.

Authenticity is determined by examining the consistency of the natural surface patination, the weight and density of the bronze alloy, the precision of hand-chased relief work, and the presence of artist signatures or workshop marks where applicable.

An antique bronze vessel serves as a striking focal point when placed on a sideboard or coffee table, functioning either as a standalone sculptural object or as a container for minimalist floral displays and botanicals.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical polishes, abrasive cleaners, or water, as these can strip away the historical patination that gives the metal its intrinsic value.
