We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Boulle marquetry is an intricate form of intarsia or inlay developed by Andre-Charles Boulle, cabinetmaker to Louis XIV. It typically employs alternating combinations of tortoiseshell and brass, cut simultaneously from stacked sheets, creating ornate floral and scroll patterns.

These cabinets are constructed from a carcase of secondary wood such as oak or pine, coated with an ebonised finish. They feature elaborate brass and faux or genuine tortoiseshell marquetry panels, secured with cast ormolu mounts and curved glass panes.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut nature of the marquetry, the quality of the fire-gilt bronze or ormolu mounts, the hand-cut dovetail joints in the internal construction, and the type of secondary timber used.

This piece works effectively as a statement anchor in a minimalist room, allowing the high-contrast brass and tortoiseshell details to stand out against neutral walls, or paired with clean-lined modern furniture to create an eclectic mix of periods.

Preservation requires maintaining stable relative humidity and avoiding direct sunlight to prevent the organic materials and veneers from warping, cracking, or lifting. Cleaning should be done strictly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
