The Charles II period spans from 1660 to 1685, characterised by the restoration of the monarchy and a revival in domestic crafts, resulting in sturdy, functional metal items often marked with makers touchmarks.

These items were crafted from pewter, an alloy primarily composed of tin mixed with copper, lead, or bismuth to provide durability and a distinctive grey lustre.

Authentic pieces typically feature makers touchmarks or hallmarks stamped into the metal, heavy patination from age, hand-hammered textures, and specific rim profiles such as triple reeding.

An antique charger can be displayed upright on a plate stand, mounted on a wall as decorative art, or used as a striking metallic centrepiece on a wooden sideboard.

Pewter should be kept dry and dusted gently with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical metal polishes that can strip away historic patina and oxidisation.
