Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th Century Scottish School oil paintings on canvas depict coastal children seated outdoors in figurative portraiture under glass. The pieces are mounted inside matching giltwood frames decorated with ornate carved leaf mouldings and bevelled inner borders. The artwork presents coastal scenes rendered in shades of blue, brown and white, finished with gleaming gold frames designed for English Country House interiors. Measuring 25.5 cm high, 18 cm wide and 7 cm deep, the pair brings traditional character to a home. Placement suits prominent display above a sideboard in a living room, dining room or hallway. The original condition retains visible signatures and dates on both works, presenting a matched pairing ready for display. The traditional framing complements period and classic interior settings, offering balanced proportions for wall hanging in domestic spaces.

FAQs

Scottish painters of this era frequently depicted genre scenes of coastal life, focusing on rural communities, children, and maritime activity with realistic detail and natural light.

Artists typically painted with oil pigments on stretched canvas or wooden panels, presented in carved giltwood or plaster moulding frames with gilded slips.

Authentic works often display age-related craquelure on the paint surface, original artist signatures, period stretcher construction, and natural oxidisation on the canvas reverse.

Hang the pair symmetrically on a feature wall, above a sideboard, or integrate them into a curated gallery wall alongside contrasting contemporary elements.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush, avoid moisture or chemical cleaners, keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and consult a professional conservator for restoration.
