Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Victorian sideboard dates from 1880 and comes in a warm brown walnut with an attractive grain to the top. The piece stands on turned feet and has four frieze drawers fitted with ornate brass drop handles. Below the drawers are four cupboard doors decorated with fan carvings, accompanied by reeded pilasters and a recessed open shelf at the base. Moulded details run along the top and base edges. Measuring 94 cm high by 178 cm wide and 56 cm deep, this substantial furniture item provides generous storage for a dining room or a large living space. It works well as a serving station or display surface in a traditional interior, combining decorative woodwork with practical shelving and enclosed compartments.

FAQs

Victorian sideboards from the late nineteenth century frequently feature substantial proportions, detailed relief carvings, fan motifs, and structured storage compartments designed for formal dining rooms.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring cast brass drop handles, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and detailed architectural mouldings.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate ironmongery, hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-planed timber back panels, and traditional dovetail joinery within the drawers.

Position a large framed mirror or contemporary artwork directly above the sideboard and pair it with minimalist ceramics, table lamps, or simple foliage to create visual balance.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and moisture.
