This Victorian Art Nouveau sideboard is fashioned from dark brown mahogany with rich floral wood inlay, brass-capped turned columns, and bevelled glass panels. The upper section holds an oval mirror flanked by two glazed display cabinets and topped with detailed cornices, above a base featuring a central bow-front drawer and two lower cupboards with brass drop handles, all resting on tapered legs. The mirror glass shows natural spotting from age. Standing 191 cm high, 167 cm wide, and 67 cm deep, this substantial furniture piece serves as a striking focal point for a dining room or living space, providing ample display and storage capacity.

Art Nouveau sideboards from the late 19th and early 20th centuries typically feature stylized organic forms, whiplash curves, and naturalistic floral marquetry, blending functional dining room storage with decorative arts movement aesthetic principles.

High-grade hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak formed the primary structure, often embellished with contrasting fruitwood or boxwood marquetry inlays, bevelled mirror glass, glazed panels, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery like dovetail joints, natural oxidisation on original brass handles, asymmetrical or stylized plant motifs inlaid into the timber, and original bevelled mirror panels reflecting period glass production methods.

Incorporate the piece as a focal point in a dining room or wide hallway, balancing dark timber tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary ceramic vessels, and subtle lighting that highlights the intricate floral wood inlays.

Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping or inlay veneer lifting, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the mahogany finish.
