Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian partners desk is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and stands on twin plinth bases. The rectangular top incorporates a brown leather writing insert surrounded by a stepped moulding border. Multiple frieze drawers and side pedestals are fitted with turned wooden knob handles, and keyholes indicate internal locks. The design includes a central kneehole arch and visible joins between the three modular sections. Measurements are 83 cm in height, 122 cm in width, and 76 cm in depth, with a kneehole measuring 56 cm in width by 64 cm in height. Position this pedestal desk in a home study, library, or traditional office setting for daily administrative tasks or writing. The dual-sided configuration allows two people to work opposite one another while making use of the abundant storage capacity provided by the banks of drawers and upper compartments. The warm timber tones complement traditional and transitional interior schemes, while the generous surface area accommodates desktop accessories, papers, and lamps.

FAQs

A Victorian pedestal desk typically features a three-part construction comprising a rectangular top with a leather writing surface resting on two vertical banks of drawers, known as pedestals.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or oak, often incorporating flame mahogany veneers and topped with gilt-tooled leather inserts and turned wooden or brass hardware.

Genuine period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original castors beneath the plinths, and natural wear or patination on the wooden and leather surfaces.

Position the desk centrally within a home office or study space, paired with an upholstered swivel chair and a brass desk lamp to combine classic craftsmanship with contemporary functionality.

Dust wood surfaces regularly with a dry cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain, and clean the leather top with dedicated leather balm while keeping the unit away from direct heat sources.
