This large nineteenth-century Sino-Tibetan statue portrays a Bodhisattva seated cross-legged on a double lotus base, finished in a warm golden brown colour. The cast bronze and brass construction incorporates an ornate prabhamandala halo behind the head, a lotus flower stem held in the left hand, and elongated earlobes with circular earrings. The figure displays vitarka mudra with the right hand resting downward and the left raised in a teaching gesture, complemented by decorative armlets and a diagonal sash across the chest. Subtle verdigris accents are visible across the metal surface, highlighting the age and casting technique of the piece. Measuring 32 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 19 cm deep with a weight of 4 kg, the sculpture suits placement on a sideboard top within a gentleman's library or study setting. The flat circular plinth rests securely on any level wooden or stone surface, creating a focal point in a traditional interior scheme.

Sino-Tibetan bronzes developed from centuries of cultural interaction between Tibet and imperial China, blending Himalayan iconography with refined Chinese metalworking techniques. Popular throughout the Qing Dynasty, these sculptures were crafted for monastic temples and private family altars.

These figures were typically cast from copper alloys, including bronze and brass, utilizing the lost-wax casting method (cire perdue). Figures were frequently hand-tooled after casting and finished with gilding, cold gold paint on the face, or left plain to develop a dark natural patina over time.

Authentic 19th-century pieces often display hand-chased surface details, signs of manual filing, uneven base plate construction, and genuine age-related surface wear. The underside of the base plate was historically sealed with a copper plate containing a crossed vajra emblem to enclose sacred relics placed inside during consecration.

In modern interiors, a bronze Bodhisattva serves as a focal sculptural element on a dark wood sideboard, low console table, or within an curated bookshelf display. Pair the object with architectural greenery, stone textures, or minimalist lighting to highlight the metalwork without cluttering the surrounding space.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or soft-bristled brush to clean intricate carved areas. Avoid using liquid chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip away historic patination and cause unintended metal oxidisation.
