Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian kneehole desk is constructed from light blonde mahogany with a warm honey brown colour and clean surfaces. A dark leather writing insert tops the desk, accompanied by nine individual drawers fitted with small round brass knob pulls. The pedestal design incorporates a plinth base beneath the drawers and a central kneehole recess. Practical proportions measure 122 cm long by 61 cm deep and 76 cm high, with a kneehole height of 61 cm. Placed in a study or home library today, the piece provides a dedicated surface for writing and administrative tasks while offering substantial storage capacity within its multi-drawer pedestal structure.

FAQs

A kneehole desk is characterised by a central recessed opening flanked by drawers or pedestals, providing comfortable legroom alongside accessible storage.

These pieces are predominantly crafted from solid or veneered mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, brass hardware, and a leather or skiver writing surface inset into the top.

Authentic period examples generally exhibit hand-sawn drawer linings, original brass knobs or handles, natural patination across the timber finish, and castors concealed beneath the plinth base.

Combine the desk with modern task lighting and a contemporary office chair to balance historic timber craftsmanship with functional, ergonomic modern living.

Dust surfaces regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid timber shrinkage or colour fading.
