Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-18th-century English country house style oak dresser stands 194 cm high, 143 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Constructed from oak with brass hardware, the piece displays a rich brown colour with a warm golden hue across its timber surfaces. The top section incorporates an open tiered plate rack above small drawers with turned wooden knobs, while the base contains three long drawers fitted with brass drop handles over three cupboard doors featuring arched fielded panels. Decorative elements include shaped top rails on the cupboard doors of both the upper and lower sections, alongside carved dentil mouldings beneath the cornice. Practical for everyday domestic use in a kitchen, dining room, or hallway, the lower cupboards and drawers provide concealed storage space while the open shelves offer display capacity for dinnerware and decorative items in a home.

FAQs

During the 18th century, the oak dresser served as a central storage unit in British households, combining practical lower cupboards for cookware with open upper shelves designed to display valuable pewter and ceramic tableware.

Georgian dressers were constructed primarily from native hardwoods such as English oak, assembled using hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and fitted with cast brass drop handles or brass knobs.

Authentic period dressers exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, irregular backboards, natural shrinkage gaps, and genuine patination around original iron or brass hardware.

Style an antique dresser by layering clean contemporary ceramics, neutral stoneware, or glass stemware on the upper shelves against a neutral backdrop to highlight the rich patina of the dark wood.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding modern spray polishes and keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
