Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century English West Country kitchen dresser is a two-part painted pine piece finished in a mushroom brown colour with glass and brass elements. The upper section has glazed cabinet doors with diamond glazing bars enclosing wooden shelves, flanked by reeded pilasters under a moulded cornice. The lower base section comprises three small upper drawers, three central stacked drawers with small brass round drop handles, and two lower cupboards with arched panels and brass knobs, standing on shaped bracket feet. The wood surfaces show gentle signs of age and wear throughout the painted finish. Measuring 205.5 cm high, 152.5 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, this large storage furniture item provides display and concealed organisation for tableware and linens. Positioned in a kitchen, dining room, or living space, this traditional kitchen dresser suits everyday storage needs while adding rustic character to an interior. The glazed upper shelves hold glassware, crockery, or decorative items, while the multiple drawers and lower cupboards keep kitchenware and dining accessories out of sight. The neutral mushroom brown paint complements various interior schemes, from country cottages to classic homes, offering a practical combination of open display space and secure enclosed storage.

FAQs

A West Country kitchen dresser is a regional English storage piece typically crafted in pine or oak, characterised by its functional two-part construction with a lower cupboard base and an upper display rack or glazed cabinet.

These pieces were primarily constructed from local hardwoods like oak or softwoods like pine, often painted to protect the timber and updated over time with various paint layers and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged construction, hand-blown glass panes, and layered historical paint finishes visible on unexposed edges.

A painted dresser functions as a focal point in contemporary dining rooms or kitchens, useful for displaying ceramics and tableware while providing concealed storage in the lower base.

Painted finishes should be dusted regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and protected from direct sunlight, dampness, and harsh chemical cleaners to preserve the integrity of the paint layer.
