Antique Senneh Rug. West Persia. 154cm X 107cm.

1900 - 1920
Description

West persia,circa 1920s.

Pretty coloured I would say a dark candy floss pinky red with geometric joined three part medallion to the centre surrounded by a dark blue with a kind of herati pattern and to the centre of the medallions.

Some end losses to each end but with an even lustrous pile . Make for a good bedroom rug and priced accordingly. Plenty of images of rug.

This Persian rug originates from West Persia and dates from 1920. Hand-knotted from a wool pile onto a cotton foundation, the floor covering measures 154 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. The textile displays a dark candy floss pinky-red field dominated by a geometric joined three-part medallion in navy blue, accompanied by an intricate Herati pattern and detailed geometric borders. Additional visual elements include fringes along the short edges and signs of age with end losses at each end, complemented by an even lustrous pile. The piece serves as a traditional bedroom rug within an English Country House setting, positioned on the floor to introduce warmth and texture to the interior space. Its substantial pile and rich coloration provide a decorative foundation for daily use in domestic environments, pairing easily with classic room layouts and traditional furnishings.

FAQs

Senneh rugs originate from the city of Sanandaj in Western Iran, historic for producing fine hand-knotted textiles with tight weaves, distinctive stepped medallions, and detailed repeating geometric motifs.

These rugs are hand-knotted using fine wool pile tied onto a sturdy cotton or silk foundation, incorporating natural plant and mineral dyes to produce rich colours.

Authentic Senneh rugs are characterised by a low, fine pile, high knot count, delicate geometric field patterns such as the Herati design, and structured hexagonal or diamond stepped medallions.

An antique Persian rug functions as a focal anchor in modern settings, introducing historic pattern, texture, and colour contrast against clean-lined contemporary furniture and neutral wooden floors.

Clean regularly using gentle suction without a rotating beater bar, turn the rug periodically to ensure even wear, and blot spills immediately using cold water and a clean white cloth.
