Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian style chest on chest is a tall storage piece constructed from burr walnut with a warm brown timber colour and finished with figured burr walnut veneers. The piece incorporates six stacked drawers across two sections, a moulded cornice at the top, brass drop handles on each drawer front, and shaped bracket feet at the base, with a bow front profile spanning the lower drawers. Measuring 130.8 cm high, 57.2 cm wide, and 43.2 cm deep, the unit stands upright on the floor. In a contemporary home, this chest of drawers provides vertical storage space for folded clothing or linens in a bedroom, dressing room, hallway, or living area without taking up a large footprint. The compact depth allows the furniture to fit against walls in narrow spaces while maintaining substantial internal storage capacity across its multiple drawers.

FAQs

A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a two-part storage unit comprising one chest of drawers mounted on top of a slightly larger base chest. Originating in the eighteenth century, this stacked format provided extensive vertical storage while remaining easier to transport than single large cabinets.

Traditional walnut chest on chests feature secondary framing constructed from pine or oak, faced with figured burr or walnut veneers. Drawer fronts were routinely fitted with cast brass drop handles, backplates, and cockbeaded moulding surrounding each aperture.

Authentic period construction is identified by hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid wood drawer linings, separate upper and lower sections divided by a molded waist, and original brass hardware with internal iron locks.

A tall walnut chest on chest serves as an anchor piece in a master bedroom, dressing room, or study. Pairing its rich timber grain with neutral wall colours, contemporary lighting, or framed monochrome artwork balances historical weight with clean modern aesthetics.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a quality natural beeswax polish once or twice per year. Keep the piece clear of direct radiator heat and direct sunlight to prevent the thin veneer layers from drying out, cracking, or lifting.
